Lifestyle changes- Improving your diet, getting more exercise, losing weight, and stopping smoking can all lower your blood pressure. Your provider helps you create a plan to reach your lifestyle goals.

Medications-In the early stages of hypertension, lifestyle changes may be all you need to get your blood pressure down to a normal range. If your blood pressure doesn’t improve, your provider prescribes antihypertensive medications.

Treating the underlying condition-Your provider at Downriver Heart and Vascular Specialists also treats the underlying health conditions that contribute to hypertension, such as high cholesterol.

What happens during a chest pain evaluation?

When you come in with concerns about chest pain, the Downriver Heart and Vascular Specialists team conduct a comprehensive exam to find the root cause of your symptoms. They review your medical and family history and perform a physical exam. To assess heart health and function, your specialist may run cardiovascular testing such as:

With technological advances, these tiny electrical devices keep getting smaller, and their batteries last 8-12 years.

What can I expect during hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you sit or lie comfortably as the pressure in the chamber increases. You breathe in and out like you usually would.

You might experience a fullness sensation in your ears which you can relieve by swallowing or yawning.

After your therapy is complete, your Downriver Heart and Vascular Specialists provider checks your ears, your blood pressure, and your pulse before you can go home. If you have diabetes, you can also expect a blood glucose test before leaving.
